PROLOGUE: THE BLACKWOOD TEA SERVICE
THE BLACKWOOD TEA SERVICE:
An Incident from the Tea Trolley Archives (1930)
Three years ago, The Tea Trolley hosted its first charity auction—an elegant evening attended by many of the area’s most prominent families and society figures.
Among the evening’s most admired displays was The Blackwood Tea Service Set, an exquisite and highly valuable antique heirloom tea set belonging to Lady Vivienne Blackwood.
The service had been loaned to The Tea Trolley for that evening as a Special Exhibition Piece only.
-It was never intended to be auctioned.
The evening began without incident:
Champagne pouring,.. Bids being placed,.. Fortunes quietly compared.
Then, midway through the auction, a minor dispute concerning another lot brought the proceedings to an unexpected halt.
While auction staff were resolving the matter, guests were invited into The Parlor for an impromptu Moroccan Mint Tea Ceremony.
It was during this time that the evening took a troubling turn.
-One of the guests suddenly became faint and collapsed on the parlor floor.
Medical assistance was summoned, and guests were starting to make arrangements to depart earlier than planned.
But assurances were made that the situation was swiftly controlled. And the auction resumed. The guest was brought home to full recovery. And though the incident was unfortunate, it was hardly regarded that evening as sinister.
…….., BUT by the following morning, that eerie feeling would change.
As the auction lots were being carefully wrapped and collected and the remaining event materials packed away, —-The auction staff made a startling discovery:
The Blackwood Tea Service was GONE!
A thorough search of The Tea Trolley revealed nothing.
The theft was reported. All guests and staff were questioned. No culprit or likely explanation was ever identified.
For three years, the mystery had remained unsolved. However, suspicions continued to grow and circulate.
Not one piece of the invaluable tea set was ever recovered.
The disappearance of The Blackwood Tea Service Set remains A Mystery to this Very Day (1933).
